Getting bored with the look and feel of your Windows PC Desktop? I’ve wanted to purchase a MAC for quite some time, but have trouble justifying paying the extra dough. Instead, I’ve found a viable solution to trick my brain a bit.

Using desktop enhancers is a perfect way to give your Windows desktop a makeover. I’ve taken the most popular desktop enhancers and displayed them below. Best of all, they are all free. I weeded out the ones that will cost you. Happy modding!

ObjectDock

ObjectDock is my favorite desktop enhancer on the list. It serves as both a task manager and program launcher, giving you the look and feel of a Mac. There are quite a few modifications you can make, while picking from rollover animation effects which include swinging and magnifying effects. The program is very easy to configure. Here’s a few favorite customized desktops I found.

VistaGlazz

VistaGlazz is ideal for Vista users, but works with Windows XP and Windows 7. It patches some Vista controls allowing you to better control the appearance, while simplifying the tweaks taking advantage of the transparent look. Third party themes and styles works with VistaGlazz.

Winstep Nexus Dock

The Winstep Nexus Dock gives you quick access to your most frequently used applications and docking them or floating them anywhere on your screen. You can use widgets, live icon reflections and take advantage of effects such as mouse-over effects, drag-and-drop and the ability to display running applications on your system tray.

Logon Studio
